Governance transition and Board elections

EDGA recently completed a major organisational milestone by incorporating as a Company Limited by Guarantee (CLG) registered with Companies House. This formal legal structure establishes sound governance and asset protection as the association pursues Sport England recognition.

Alongside incorporation, the association is restructuring executive leadership and introducing accessible volunteering pathways. The Board of Directors comprises seven Executive Officer positions, elected annually by member ballot prior to the AGM:

  • National Director: Iain McDougall (standing down)
  • Assistant National Director: Vacant
  • Secretary: Connor Harvey-Ward (current)
  • Treasurer: Michael Varrow (current)
  • Director of Competitions: Paul Waite (current)
  • Director of Communications: Vacant
  • Safeguarding and Welfare Officer: Jade Botes (current appointee; formal confirmation vote)

Supporting Non-Executive roles

  • Women’s Committee Chair: Vacant
  • Membership Secretary: Jaimie Cross (current)
  • Outreach Lead: Paul Stoddart (standing down)

Non-Portfolio Committee roles

To widen participation in running the association without imposing governance liabilities, EDGA is introducing project-focused, non-portfolio committee roles. These flexible positions allow members to contribute specific skills without executive board pressures. Suggested areas include social media content creation (Instagram and YouTube), Facebook community moderation, tour equipment logistics, and end-of-year awards coordination.

Current members interested in standing for election or volunteering for committee work should email National Director Iain McDougall at [email protected] by Saturday 14 November 2026.

Leadership departures: Statements from Iain McDougall and Paul Stoddart

After careful consideration, I have decided to resign from my position as National Director of the English Disc Golf Association. This has not been an easy decision. It has been a privilege to represent English disc golf and to work alongside so many passionate people who have given their time, energy and expertise to help move our sport forward.

I am particularly proud of the progress we have made in laying the foundations for the formal recognition of disc golf and flying disc sport within the UK sporting landscape. A significant part of that work has been restructuring our organisation from the British Disc Golf Association (BDGA) into a national body for English disc golf, while developing closer cooperation with the Scottish Disc Golf Association and UK Ultimate (UKU). This aligns UK governance with successful European sporting frameworks.

While I am stepping away from my role as National Director, I look forward to continuing to be part of the disc golf community as a player and supporting the sport in whatever way I can.

Iain McDougall, National Director

As I come towards the end of my tenth year involved with both the BDGA and now the EDGA, serving you all and the sport, I feel it is time to make way for new, fresh-faced and enthusiastic members to start the next era of disc golf in England. Looking back to my first days joining the Board, it is inspiring to see how far the sport has progressed across the UK.

EDGA is set up by its members, for its members, to help grow the sport. I encourage all of you to get involved in some part, large or small. It has been an honour to serve, and while I am standing down from the Board, I will continue to support ongoing grassroots work with the clubs.

Paul Stoddart, Outreach Lead
