Disc golf club affiliation in England

The English Disc Golf Association (EDGA) is developing a light-touch club listing and affiliation process for disc golf clubs in England. The aim is to help clubs become easier to find, easier to support and better prepared when speaking with councils, landowners, schools, funders and community partners.

The final affiliation framework is not yet open for public applications. The information on this page explains the intended direction and helps clubs prepare useful documents without implying that any club is currently affiliated, approved, accredited or guaranteed by EDGA.

What club affiliation is intended to do

Club affiliation is intended to recognise that a club has provided core information and has basic arrangements in place for governance, welfare, conduct, insurance, risk management and communication.

It is also intended to help EDGA build a clearer national picture of organised disc golf activity across England, including where clubs operate, what support they need and how the sport is growing.

What affiliation is not

Affiliation will not mean that EDGA manages, supervises or guarantees a club’s activity. Clubs remain responsible for their own venues, volunteers, safeguarding, insurance, risk assessments, permissions, finances and legal duties.

Affiliation should not be described as EDGA approval, EDGA accreditation, a safety guarantee or confirmation that a club is safe for juniors.

What clubs can prepare now

Even before the final process is confirmed, clubs can prepare documents and information that are useful for good club administration. These are sensible foundations for any club, regardless of future affiliation.

  • A club constitution or basic operating principles.
  • A code of conduct for players, volunteers, visitors and online spaces.
  • A safeguarding policy and named welfare or safeguarding contact where relevant.
  • A basic risk assessment for regular club activity.
  • Insurance information, including provider, renewal date and activities covered.
  • Clear public contact details for the club.
  • Committee or organiser role holders.
  • Simple finance records and bank account arrangements where the club holds money.
  • Course, park, venue, council or landowner contact information.

Editable examples are available from the Club Templates and Forms page.

Likely information clubs will be asked for

The final form may change, but clubs should expect to provide practical information about how they operate.

  • Club name and main contact details.
  • Usual playing location, course or area covered.
  • Website, social media or public contact route.
  • Organiser or committee roles.
  • Approximate membership or participation numbers.
  • Whether the club runs beginner, junior, school, league or event activity.
  • Key documents such as constitution, code of conduct, safeguarding policy and risk assessment.
  • Insurance and finance arrangements where relevant.
  • What support the club needs from EDGA.

Relationship with the Club Directory

The Club Directory is intended to help players find local disc golf activity. A directory listing is not the same as affiliation, approval or accreditation.

In future, affiliated clubs may be able to reference their status in their own communications once EDGA has confirmed the process, wording and badge rules. Until then, clubs should avoid claiming EDGA affiliation unless they have received formal confirmation from EDGA.

How this helps councils and landowners

Many councils and landowners want to know who is responsible for organised activity on a site. A clear club structure, named contacts, risk assessment and insurance position can make those conversations easier.

It is also useful to explain that disc golf is different from traditional golf. Disc golf does not require manicured fairways, greens, bunkers, irrigation, a clubhouse or exclusive use of large areas of land. Many disc golf activities use existing parks, woodlands or open spaces with light-touch layouts and respect for other users.

Register your club’s interest

EDGA is not yet accepting public affiliation applications, but clubs can register interest so they can be contacted when the process opens.

Registering interest does not mean that a club is listed, affiliated, approved or accredited by EDGA. It simply helps EDGA understand which clubs are active, where support may be needed and who would like to hear about the next stage.

Please include your club name, location, main contact, usual course or playing area, public links and a short note about what support you are looking for.

Current status

EDGA is still shaping the club affiliation process, including the review approach, wording, requirements and public status descriptions. Details will be published when they are confirmed.

For now, clubs should focus on preparing strong basic documents, keeping contact information up to date and using the available support resources.

For questions about affiliation or club setup, contact EDGA through the Contact page.
