79 players brave Leamington wind for EDGA Tour’s Spring at the Park

79 players came out to Quarry Park Disc Golf Course in Leamington Spa on Saturday for the EDGA Tour’s Spring at the Park, a two-round, one-day PDGA C-tier event. The woods holes were closed due to newly seeded areas so everyone played a slightly modified blue or red layout. They did it in occasional drizzle, occasional sun, gusts up to 36mph, and under an ever changing and dramatic sky!

MPO

Noah Smithson had the day settled by lunchtime. He carded -10 in round one, with a round rating of 1062, the hot round of the day across all pro divisions, and never let the field back in. He finished at -15, 10 shots clear of Ian Krajna in second at -5. Krajna matched the pace through round one but went flat in the afternoon (E), and that gap never closed. Jonathan Tweed rounded out the podium at -3 with two consistent rounds. Scott Mckay flashed form early with -6 in round one, but a +4 second round dropped him to fourth.

FPO

Sue Underwood and Leigh Williams tied after the first round with Elva Preston 2 shots back. View Georgiou, six shots back after round one, produced the best women’s second round of the day at +2. But Preston also improved, going from +9 to +4 in round two, and Georgiou couldn’t quite close the gap. Preston won at +13, Georgiou second at +15, Sue Underwood third at +16.

MA1

Adam Willetts and Liam Pitt both finished at +5, setting up a tiebreaker. Pitt had the stronger first round (-2), but gave those shots back and more in round two (+7). Willetts was steadier across both rounds (+2/+3) but lost the playoff. Josiah Harper finished third at +8.

MA2

Tom Atkins won at +10 with rounds of +2 and +8, four shots clear of tied runners-up Bradley Shepherd and Andrew Witherspoon, who both finished at +13.

MA3

Playing the red layout, along with the A40+ divisions, Thomas Sutton won by 10 shots. He finished at +5 across two near-identical rounds (+2/+3), leaving Andrew Upmalis and Andrew Lewis to share second at +15.

MA40

Three players finished level at +12: Graham Wilson, Dean Smith, and Duncan Evans. Wilson had the biggest swing: he stood at +9 after round one then came back with +3 in the afternoon. Evans had led after round one (+4), but couldn’t extend it. The three-way playoff resulted in an Evans win, with Smith second.

Other divisions

Ivan Bromage played uncontested in MP40, Andy Cotgreave won MA50 at +27, Martin Dyer won MA60, and Jacqui Dyer won FA60.
