This event saw the first two-day event at this awesome central location. Since the one-day tour event in 2025, a host of course improvements had been made by Josh and the team to further cement this course as a community favourite.
Day 1 started with glorious sunshine and a suspicious lack of the winds which are commonly felt off the adjacent lake. Experienced players took full advantage of the conditions, with Jon Tweed in MPO shooting a 1010 rated -9, backed up by a -7 in round two. In MP40, Iain McDougall displayed his usual control to hit the weekend’s hot round of -11 in round 2. Was he powered up by the food at the Cable Café? We may never know.
The Amateur divisions were also off to hot starts with Oli Thomson (MA1) showing his power with a first round -6 but Matt Cooke going bogey-free in round 2 to close the gap. The old duffers in MA40 battled hard in round one with Lee Riley (-4) chasing Duncan Evans (-5). MA2 and MA3 were shaping up to be close battles as everyone learned the best lines to attack the diverse range of holes on offer. The blind, downhill island of hole 11 caught many out, with a scoring spread between 2 and 8 throws being carded in MPO!
At the end of day one, the beers provided by event sponsor BREWPOINT were happily consumed whilst players found bargains at the post-round Disc Jumble and shared the stories of their rounds. What game plans would change? Who would hold their nerve?
Day 2 saw the return of the wind, with gusto! Box End regulars know the pain of driving on the 104m Hole 1 into a raging headwind but Scott Elliot II missed the memo as he carded the only Ace of the event on Hole 11. The wind allowed the cream to rise across all divisions with disc selection and smart choices being rewarded in the tougher conditions.
Harry Messenger got closest to a clean round 3 with a single blemish on the card on his way to 2nd in MPO behind Jon Tweed. View Georgiou showed her class as she pushed Team Kastaplast’s Elva Preston to a tight FPO finish, with Elva taking it by one throw. Matt Cooke took MA1 despite Scott Rickard surging with a string of long putts, whilst MA2 came down to a playoff with Ciaran Buckley committing to a brave line along the lake’s edge which put him ahead of Jade Botes.
Thank you to all who made the journey. We hope that this event can become a yearly staple as the course continues to improve. Let’s go!
