Good throwing form makes disc golf more enjoyable and less tiring. You do not need a perfect technique on day one, but a few simple habits will help you throw straighter and avoid injury.
Basic backhand throw
- Hold the rim firmly with your fingers under the disc and thumb on top.
- Stand sideways to the target with your feet shoulder width apart.
- Reach the disc back at waist height, then pull it smoothly across your body.
- Release flat, with your wrist leading and your weight moving onto your front foot.

Forehand and putting
Many players add a simple forehand (sidearm) shot for tee shots and approaches. Putting is usually a shorter, controlled motion from inside the circle. Local coaches and experienced players are often happy to give quick tips between holes.

Practice safely
- Use an open field or practice area where you will not hit people, cars or paths.
- Start at lower power and focus on clean releases.
- Work on distance later; accuracy builds confidence faster.
