How to use this checklist

This checklist helps a disc golf club record what insurance it has, what activities are covered and what questions still need to be checked.

This is guidance only. It is not insurance advice. Clubs should check their own insurance needs and read the policy wording carefully before relying on cover.

1. Why insurance matters

Insurance can help protect the club, volunteers and organisers if something goes wrong. It can also be requested by councils, landowners, venues, schools, funders or event partners before they allow activity to take place.

The type of cover needed will depend on what the club does. A casual social group, a club running regular public sessions, a club working with juniors and a club running larger events may each have different insurance needs.

2. Questions to consider

  • Does the club have public liability insurance?
  • Who is the named policyholder?
  • Is the club itself covered, or only named individuals?
  • What activities are covered?
  • Are club sessions covered?
  • Are events covered?
  • Are volunteers covered?
  • Are juniors covered?
  • Are activities on private land covered?
  • Are activities in public parks covered?
  • Are temporary courses covered?
  • Are coaching sessions covered?
  • Are fundraising events covered?
  • Are workdays, course maintenance or installation tasks covered?
  • Are loan discs, baskets, gazebos or other club equipment covered?
  • Are committee members covered for club management decisions?
  • Is employers’ liability needed because the club has employees or uses certain volunteers?
  • What exclusions apply?
  • When does the policy renew?
  • What incident reporting requirements does the insurer set?
  • Does the insurer need to be told about larger events or higher-risk activity in advance?

  • The club starts junior activity.
  • The club begins working with schools, councils or community partners.
  • The club runs a larger event.
  • The club buys or stores significant equipment.
  • The club changes venue or activity type.
  • The insurer changes policy terms.
  • The renewal date is approaching.
