Winter is here! 19 players are braving the cold for the women’s disc golf putting league

Nineteen players from across Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales are already braving the elements to sharpen their skills for the 2026 season.

The frost is on the ground and the days are short, but for women disc golfers across the UK and Ireland, the work is just beginning. The 2026 Winter Women’s Putting League has officially launched, with 19 dedicated players from Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales already out in their back gardens and at local courses to keep their games sharp.

Following the success of previous years, this league has become a vital motivator during the off-season. It turns the solitary “winter grind” into a social, cross-border competition, proving that the best time to shave strokes off your game is right now.

From Back Gardens to Local Chains

This is a truly grassroots effort. You won’t find these players in a gym; they are out in the fresh air, using portable baskets in their yards or hitting the practice pins at their local courses.

To keep the competition fair and fun, the league is split into two divisions:

  • Short Putt Division (5m, 6m, 7m): Recommended for Juniors, FA3, FA4, and FA Masters.
  • Long Putt Division (8m, 9m, 10m): Aimed at FPO, FA1, FA2, and FP Masters.

The Mid-Winter Grind: How it Works

The 10-week league runs from 5 January through to 15 March, divided into five fortnightly rounds. The beauty of the format is its flexibility:

  • Unlimited Practice: Players can practice as many times as they want during each two-week window.
  • The “Peak” Score: Only the best score (out of 10 putts at each distance) needs to be submitted by the Sunday deadline.
  • The Honour System: Built on a foundation of trust, players submit their results via email or a dedicated WhatsApp group.

Prizes for Commitment and Growth

While the goal is to see those putts drop during the summer tournament season, the league will award prizes for the Best Cumulative Score (rewarding week-on-week commitment) and Most Improved (recognizing those who see the biggest jump in their accuracy).

Join the 19!

The league has already started, but the door is still open! If you are a woman disc golfer in the UK or Ireland looking for a reason to get outside and practice, we would love to have you. While joining late may affect your cumulative points, the focus is on personal improvement and community.
